There are some people in life who seems as though they were made from actual sunshine. You know exactly who I’m talking about – their smile lights up their face and their hearts are bigger than the sky. I’m sure you know a few people personally who embody this vibe (I know I do) but just in case you don’t, I’m going to introduce you to one.
Sarah, who runs a travel blog called Salty Luxe, is one of those people. Her sunny disposition is absolutely infectious, and I’ve had the pleasure of following her gorgeous Instagram account for years. These days, I’m lucky to call her my friend.
Sarah has kindly agreed to answer a few questions for me, because I want you guys to fall in love with her magical life just as much as I have!

Describe yourself in five words:
SALTY, JOYFUL, VIBES, GENUINE, #ISLANDLIFEFORLIFE
Why did you start travelling and what made you fall in love with it?
I fell in love with travelling after spending time in Burma (solo / 20 years old) working with an elephant vet outpost for the sole purpose of protecting wild elephants. I lived with a hill tribe, slept next to a pig (who to my despair became the village dinner in celebration of my stay on my last night in the jungle #heartbreak!) & had dinner on the floor with a little family every night. It was beautiful & eye-opening, emotional & truly heart touching. I’ve never stopped since!

What was the moment where you realised you could turn your passion for travel & photography into a career?
I think it crept up on me. I wanted to travel full time, I love being creative, I feel most alive when doing both together, but to be honest I didn’t actually think I would be doing this as a career. It really took me by surprise, but I guess often the best things do!
What is the most challenging thing about travelling for a living?
My partner Matt works as a full-time engineer, so I often travel with friends/family, leaving him to look after our pup Scarley. I love to travel, but I love to travel with Matt more. Keep an eye out for 2019 announcements though, we have something very special to share!

Is there anything that you do during your travels to try and minimise your impact on the environment?
Absolutely, this is so close to my heart & I think we all need to work hard to contribute to a healthy earth! I travel with a reusable drink bottle at all times, as well as a steel straw & reusable knife, fork & container (particularly for remote trips where I know plastic containers would be used for meals). I also take a tote bag with me to use when shopping (I do this at home too rather than using plastic bags). I also travel with little reusable containers holding all my beauty products, so I can use the products I know are made ethically that I use at home.
What is something that you like to pack that is totally not essential, but you love having when you travel?
I love having a little essential oil spray – its good for the plane or on your pillow, it reminds you of home ❤️

Do you ever get recognised in unlikely places?
Actually no! Haha! I am so low key 🤭
What are some small things that you like to do to make yourself feel better?
I love getting into the ocean whenever I can (Matt & I actually have an ocean swim count on our fridge to keep us inspired to swim every day!). I also love riding my bike & grabbing a quiet coffee before starting my day, enjoying a coffee in my backyard with a loved one, walking around a new place (when travelling) early in the morning & watching it wake up, give my dog belly scratches before heading to the puppy beach to hug all the dogs I possibly can.

Where is ONE place in the world that everyone should visit in their lifetime?
Bora Bora. Oh gosh, yes. Take me back!
What advice do you have for someone who wishes to follow in your footsteps?
DO NOT GIVE UP.
